Ingredients
- 1 lb high-quality ground beef (80% lean)
- 4 slices rye or marble rye bread
- 4 slices Swiss cheese (or cheddar)
- 1 large sweet onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté the sliced onions until golden brown, about 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and pepper, then form into patties matching the size of your bread slices.
- In the same skillet, add more butter if needed and cook each patty over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned.
- Assemble the sandwiches: place one slice of bread on a surface, add a slice of cheese, top with a patty and caramelized onions, then add another slice of cheese followed by another slice of bread.
- Grill the sandwiches in the skillet with more butter until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce or side dishes.
