- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
- 1½ cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Cream cheese for spreading
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm water and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Gradually add flour and salt to form dough; knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in an oiled bowl covered with plastic wrap for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough, divide into eight pieces, and shape into bagels.
- Boil bagels for 1 minute on each side before baking at 425°F (220°C) for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow cooling slightly before spreading with cream cheese.
