Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually combine wet ingredients with dry ingredients until just mixed; avoid overmixing.
  5. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 25-30 minutes; cool completely in pans.
  6. For the custard, heat milk, cornstarch, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened (5-7 minutes). Let cool slightly.

  8. Assemble by placing one cake layer on a plate, spreading half the custard on top, adding the second layer, and pouring remaining ganache over it.
