- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

- 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions
- Cook the macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente (about 7 minutes). Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth, then simmer until thickened. Add shredded cheddar, stirring until melted.
- Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, ensuring each piece is well coated.
- (Optional) Transfer to a greased baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
