Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
- Salt (to taste)
- Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
- 4 slices American cheese (or cheese of choice)
- 4 soft burger buns
- Lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, onions, and preferred sauces
Instructions
- Preheat your grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
- Divide the ground beef into four equal portions (about 4 ounces each). Keep them loose for optimal texture.
- Season each portion generously with salt and pepper just before cooking.
- Place the beef portions on the hot surface and use a spatula to smash down each portion firmly for about 10 seconds.
- Cook for about two minutes, then flip the burgers and place a slice of cheese on top. Cook for another minute until the cheese melts.
- Toast the buns if desired, then assemble by layering lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and sauces before adding the patty on top.
