- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 8 oz penne or fusilli pasta
- 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft (about 5 minutes), then stir in minced garlic until fragrant.
- Increase heat to medium-high and add ground beef. Cook until browned (7-10 minutes), breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 15-20 minutes to deepen flavors.
- Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente; drain but reserve some pasta water.
- Toss cooked pasta into the skillet with the sauce, adding reserved water as needed for desired consistency.
- Serve hot topped with shredded cheese and garnish with fresh basil if desired.
